Purpose of the work. To highlight European influences on the Ukrainian educational system of the early modern era, in particular, the educational model of the Chernihiv Collegium of the 18th century.
Research methods. The use of the historical-chronological method in combination with analytical, comparative and generalizing approaches. Scientific novelty. It has been proven that the Chernihiv Collegium was founded on the European classical system of education and upbringing. On the basis of this assimilated European heritage, entire generations of teachers, church leaders, doctors, and civil servants were educated. The Chernihiv Collegium was one of the centers of development of Ukrainian literature in the first half of the 18th century.
Conclusions. The significance of the Chernihiv Collegium, based on the European classical system of education and upbringing, which functioned throughout the 18th century, lies in the fact that it contributed to the study and acquaintance with the ancient, European medieval, baroque heritage, and humanistic traditions of different strata of Ukrainian society. Along with the Kyiv Academy and other collegiums, the Chernihiv Collegium was a conduit of European cultural influences, contributing to the rapprochement of Western and Ukrainian cultures. Іn the second half of the 18th century, the educational model formed in the 16th century, according to which the Chernihiv Collegium was created, no longer met the requirements of the new era and needed reform.
