Established in 1982 at the T. G. Shevchenko Chernihiv State Pedagogical Institute, the Department of Chemistry underwent significant changes and reforms, and is now known as the «Department of Chemistry, Technology, and Pharmacy». The latest history of the department began in the 2019/20 academic year and is associated with the launch of new educational programs: the first enrollment of bachelor's degree students in the specialty 181 Food Technology took place in the 2020/2021 academic year, and master's degree students in the 2022/2023 academic year. Almost simultaneously, at the request of the management of the Chernihivvodokanal municipal enterprise, the department also began training specialists in the educational and professional program «Water Technologies. Water Supply and Water Disposal». The launch and development of educational programs relevant to the Chernihiv region and attractive to applicants created certain challenges, but also provided an opportunity to train bachelors and masters in the specialties already established for the department, such as 014 Secondary Education (Chemistry) and 102 Chemistry. At the same time, the department's staff was strengthened and expanded, and new areas of scientific research were developed.
The purpose of the work is to analyze how the Department of Chemistry, Technology, and Pharmacy adapts and contributes to specialist training amid current scientific, educational, and labor market challenges.
The methodology of the article is based on the use of the principles of objectivity and historicism.
The scientific novelty lies in the analysis of changes and transformations that have ensured the development of the Department of Chemistry, Technology, and Pharmacy in the context of changing labor market demand and the popularity of specialties, as well as transformations in the higher education system in Ukraine.
Conclusions. Current trends in the demands of higher education seekers and society have led to the transformation of the Department of Chemistry, Technology, and Pharmacy, which has made it possible to launch new educational programs, develop areas of scientific activity, and unlock the creative potential of teachers based on accumulated experience.
