The article highlights the formation and activities of the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of History of the Chernihiv State Pedagogical Institute named after T.G. Shevchenko (now the O. M. Lazarevsky Educational and Scientific Institute of History, Ethnology and Law of the Chernihiv Collegium named after T. G. Shevchenko National University) in the period 1993–2004. The composition of the department is presented and the activities of teachers are aimed at creating conditions for the personal development of students. The scientific achievements of the employees of the Department of Psychology are considered and the number of graduates who received higher education at different educational levels is shown. The role of the members of the Department of Psychology in ensuring the quality of education, training of higher education applicants using pedagogical methods and technologies that allow the formation of knowledge, skills and abilities aimed at supporting mental health, adaptation and development of the personality, diagnostics, correction of mental states, overcoming stress, establishing communication links, using individual and group methods in the work of a psychologist is noted. It is emphasized that during the functioning of the Department of Psychology. as part of the Faculty of History, its staff provided training for psychological specialists capable of professional self-realization at a competitive level.
Purpose of the Article: to consider the historical milestones and achievements of the Department of Psychology.
Research Methodology consists of methods of analysis and synthesis, historical-genetic, comparative, periodization, which provide coverage of the chronology of the activities of the Department of Psychology and outline the main achievements of its employees and graduates.
Scientific novelty: consists in the fact that the article publishes previously unknown materials, memories of the activities of the Department of Psychology, which were previously ignored or properly researched.
Conclusions: according to the results of the study, the composition of the department at the time of its formation and subsequent existence is highlighted. The specialties in which specialists were trained are highlighted. The names of the higher education institution and structural divisions in which the Department of Psychology functioned are presented. The scientific achievements of teachers and graduates of the Department of Psychology (thesis) are shown, which expanded the boundaries of knowledge in psychological and pedagogical sciences.
Prospects for further work: the results obtained serve as the basis for further research on the activities of the Department of Psychology and highlighting the scientific achievements of its employees.
