The Spanish pedagogical press at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was represented by numerous periodicals, both metropolitan and provincial. However, the Madrid magazine «Bulletin of Free Teaching Institution» (1877–1936) was of particular importance.
The purpose of the work is to study the pedagogical issues presented in the Madrid periodical «Bulletin of Free Teaching Institution» in the 1890–1910s.
Methodology. In the process of studying the pedagogical issues of the publications of the «Bulletin of Free Teaching Institution» at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, specific scientific methodological approaches were used: comparative-pedagogical, paradigmatic-pedagogical, problem-historical, hermeneutic. The main research methods were pedagogical-retrospective, comparative, and the method of hermeneutics.
Scientific novelty. The article focuses on the spectrum of pedagogical problems raised by prominent Spanish educators in the Madrid periodical «Bulletin of Free Teaching Institution» at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Conclusions. «Bulletin of Free Teaching Institution» is a unique periodical in the mosaic of the Spanish pedagogical press at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is the most complete collection of the names of the most prominent educators of Spain of that time. The magazine was known in Europe and America, and many teachers from different countries of the world collaborated with it.
The most important feature of the «Bulletin of Free Teaching Institution» was the promotion of the freest ideas for the development of public education – from the secularity of the school to the democratic principles of managing the education system in the state. The entire spectrum of the most acute pedagogical problems of the late 19th – early 20th centuries was reflected in the «Bulletin of Free Teaching Institution», in the original works of Spanish educators – fighters for the great and powerful Motherland.
