Abstract

The relevance of the article In the current conditions of educational reform, the affirmation of humanistic values, and the search for effective ways of personality development, increasing attention is being paid to the creative legacy of Sofia Rusova. Her pedagogical and socio-philosophical ideas contain a profound understanding of the essence of education as an important factor in the spiritual, cultural, and civic formation of a person. The relevance of this study is determined by the need to reconsider the socio-philosophical meaning of the concept of education in the context of contemporary challenges, in particular the formation of national identity, the development of democratic values, the upbringing of an active citizen, and the ensuring of harmonious personal development. An analysis of Sofia Rusova’s views makes it possible to identify the theoretical and methodological foundations of education that have not lost their significance and can be creatively applied in modern educational practice and academic discourse. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of education as a socio-cultural phenomenon and an important mechanism of social development.

The aim of the study To examine the socio-philosophical meaning of the concept of education in the creative legacy of Sofia Rusova, to reveal her views on education as a factor in the spiritual, moral, national, and civic development of the individual, and to substantiate the significance of these ideas in the context of contemporary educational transformations.

Scientific novelty. It consists in a comprehensive socio-philosophical interpretation of the concept of education in the creative legacy of Sofia Rusova. The study clarifies the substantive characteristics of her understanding of education as a socio-cultural phenomenon and a factor in personality formation, and reveals the interrelation of educational, national-cultural, and humanistic ideas within the structure of her pedagogical concept. The socio-philosophical foundations of Sofia Rusova’s educational views are identified, particularly regarding the role of education in the formation of civic consciousness, national identity, and the spiritual development of the individual. Further development is given to substantiating the relevance of her educational ideas for contemporary processes of educational modernization and for the formation of value orientations of the individual in conditions of societal transformation.

Conclusions: The conducted research made it possible to establish that in the creative legacy of Sofia Rusova, the concept of education acquires a profound socio-philosophical meaning and is considered not merely as a process of knowledge transmission, but as an important factor in personality formation and the development of its spiritual, moral, and civic qualities. In her conceptual framework, education appears as a socio-cultural phenomenon aimed at ensuring the harmonious development of the individual, fostering national consciousness, and cultivating a responsible citizen. It has been clarified that Sofia Rusova’s socio-philosophical views are grounded in the principles of humanism, democracy, child-centeredness, and the national orientation of education. She advocated the idea of holistic personality development, emphasizing the necessity of integrating intellectual, moral, aesthetic, and labor education. Of particular importance in her work is the role of the native language, culture, and national traditions in the process of educational development. It has been demonstrated that Sofia Rusova’s educational ideas remain relevant in the context of contemporary social transformations and the reform of Ukraine’s educational system. Their creative reinterpretation contributes to a deeper understanding of education as a key mechanism of social development, the formation of civic responsibility, national identity, and the affirmation of humanistic values. Prospects for further research are associated with a more detailed analysis of the influence of Sofia Rusova’s socio-philosophical ideas on the development of contemporary Ukrainian educational thought and practice.
