Abstract

Modern transformation processes in the field of higher education and the transport industry require the training of competitive specialists capable of operating effectively in a dynamic labor market. The transition to a competency-based paradigm of education orients the educational process not only on the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, but also on the formation of practical skills, professional skills, critical thinking and the ability to make informed decisions in real production situations.

This is of particular importance in the process of studying the discipline «Fundamentals of Road Transportation», which is fundamental for the training of specialists in the transport industry. Modern conditions for the development of logistics, the growth of transportation volumes, the introduction of digital technologies, automation and intelligent transport systems necessitate the updating of the content and methods of training. Traditional approaches no longer fully ensure the formation of the ability of higher education applicants to comprehensively solve professional tasks.

In this context, competency-based training is an effective tool for modernizing the educational process, as it is aimed at integrating knowledge, skills, and experience. It involves the use of active and interactive learning methods, modeling professional situations, using case technologies, and practice-oriented tasks, which contributes to the formation of future specialists' ability to organize transportation, optimize transport processes, and ensure safety and economic efficiency.

Therefore, the relevance of the topic of the article is determined by the need to improve the training of higher education applicants in accordance with the modern requirements of the transport industry and the implementation of a competency-based approach as a key factor in the formation of professional competence of future specialists in the field of road transportation.

The purpose of the article is to theoretically substantiate and reveal the features of competency-based training of higher education applicants in the process of studying the discipline «Fundamentals of Road Transportation», as well as to determine pedagogical conditions and methodological approaches that ensure the formation of professional competencies of future specialists in the transport industry.

The methodological basis of the study is based on the provisions of the competency-based, systemic and activity-based approaches to the professional training of higher education applicants. The competency-based approach is considered the leading one, which ensures the orientation of the educational process towards the formation of integrated professional competencies of future transport industry specialists. The systemic approach allows us to consider the process of teaching the discipline «Fundamentals of Road Transport» as a holistic pedagogical system, all elements of which (goal, content, methods, forms and means of learning) are interconnected and aimed at achieving the expected training results. The activity approach ensures the orientation of the educational process towards the active practical activity of students, modeling professional situations, solving applied problems and developing skills to make informed decisions in the field of road transport. In the research process, general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization and comparison were also used to study scientific and methodological sources, regulatory documents and pedagogical experience regarding the implementation of competency-based learning in higher education.

The scientific novelty of the study lies in the theoretical substantiation and clarification of the content of competency-based training of higher education applicants in the process of studying the discipline «Fundamentals of Road Transportation» taking into account modern requirements of the transport industry and educational standards. The pedagogical conditions for the formation of professional competencies of future road transport specialists have been systematized and specified, in particular through the integration of practice-oriented training, the use of active learning methods within the specified discipline.

Approaches to the organization of the educational process have been improved, which ensure a combination of theoretical training with practical activities of students, which contributes to the formation of their ability to effectively manage transport processes.

The provisions on the application of a competency-based approach in the professional training of future specialists in the transport industry have been further developed, which allows to improve the quality of the educational process and the level of readiness of graduates for professional activity.

Conclusions. The article substantiates the feasibility of implementing a competency-based approach in the process of studying the discipline «Fundamentals of Road Transportation». It has been established that its implementation contributes to the formation of professional competencies, the development of practical skills, and the increase in the readiness of higher education applicants for future professional activity.
