THE CONCEPT OF EDUCATIONAL SPACE IN THE HISTORICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL DISCOURSE

The purpose of the article is to reveal the essence of the educational space concept, to highlight its main properties and signs, to outline the key components of educational space through the prism of historical and pedagogical research.
Methodology. Analysis of pedagogical, historical-pedagogical and historical-philosophical articles and monographs; pedagogical observations; methods of comparison and generalization of historical-pedagogical and pedagogical facts, processes and phenomena.
The scientific novelty consists in defining the main integral characteristics and semantics of the concept of «educational space» as a complex multi-component formation, outlining its components and determining the role they play in shaping the way a person is in society.
Conclusions. The analysis of scientific sources, which consider the issue of educational space, allows to reach certain conclusions. During the historical development of society, the educational space underwent numerous transformations. Currently, the educational space reflects the system of social connections and relations in the field of education, the nature of the relationships of society and social institutions related to meeting the educational needs of society. Today, it is a structured system of pedagogical factors that ensure the meeting, interaction, understanding and cognition (mastery) of the individual in the process of its development and the formation of a specially organized pedagogical environment. Educational space always has certain features depending on its geography (territory of location, place of deployment) and is characterized by a certain amount of educational services, power, intensity of educational information, educational infrastructure (quantitative composition of its elements, their location in space and interaction), functions on principles of various educational systems interaction generated by a certain culture.
Therefore, the problem of researching the content and essential characteristics of the educational space will remain relevant even today. Its review and analysis is inextricably linked to the study of general philosophical concepts of space and environment.
