Аrticle's purpose. The aim of research is to analyze the conceptual foundations of modern ethnnodesign research within the methodological framework of global and national approaches of the Ukrainian and foreign researchers and to introduce the discourse into the academic discipline of «ethnodesign» in higher education.
Methodology. The research methodology is based on the use of integrated culturological approach, methods of comparative analysis and theoretical generalization.
Scientific novelty. The novelty of research includes the theoretical analysis of global and national ethnodesign research vectors as well as the current tendencies of expanding the ethnodesign influence. The comparative analysis of both approaches and the introduction of this
discourse into the academic process allows a better understanding of ethnodesign development as a prerequisite for the humanization of the external context of existence.
Conclusions. The research conducted made it possible to highlight the main conceptions of ethnodesign research, which were opposed to each other due to the difference in global and national approaches to the study. Based on the analysis of modern research narratives in the field of ethnodesign, it was determined that among the principles for studying ethnodesign, the most balanced in design practice is an integrated approach that considers globalization processes and at the same time preserves and creatively revises the artistic, creative and craft traditions of the nation. The introduction of this discourse into the ethnodesign related educational disciplines of
Ukrainian higher education institutions will allow students to better understand the interconnections in the overall picture of artistic, design, and economic processes and to develop successful national design practices. The analysis of social, organizational, economic, and artistic factors that contribute to the development of ethnodesign might be a prospect for further research.
