ROLE OF THE MEDIA IN FORMING THE IMAGE OF THE REGION

The article is devoted to the problem of the formation of the image of the region in the multi-modus media space. The emphasis is on the involvement of signs from different semiotic systems in this process. In the course of the comparative analysis, the thematic dominant slots of the representation of the image of the two regions are revealed. The ways of representation of media content participating in the formation of the region’s image are found out.
The purpose of the study is to identify the linguistic and non-linguistic peculiarities of the presentation of information in the formation of the image of the regions in the digital media.
The methodological basis of this study is the theories of media text and polycode text by N. S. Valgina, T. G. Dobrosklonskaya, T. P. Karpilovich, V. I. Ivchenkov, V. E. Chernyavskaya, L. S. Bolshiyanova, E. Ye. Anisimova, G. Kress, T. van Luween.
The scientific novelty of the research is based on a comprehensive analysis that draws on data from various scientific areas, to describe the means involved in the process of forming the image of regions, to reveal the tendencies of organizing a regional polycode media text.
Conclusions. In the course of the study, it is possible to find out that signs of different modality are actively used to create an image of the region in the digital media of the Brest region and Yerevan. The slots «tourism», «culture», «economy» are significant slots for the representation of the image of the regions. These slots have verbal and non-verbal content both in the edition of Yerevan and in the regional edition of the Brest region.
