Abstract

The purpose of the work is to clarify the competences content of the future specialists in physical education and sports in the field of education for sustainable development, in accordance with the recommendations of the UNECE Expert Group, and to analyse the possibility of their formation under the conditions of the modern education system in Ukraine.

Methodology. The work was performed on the basis of a competent approach to the training of the graduate of the general secondary educational institution and professional training of the future specialist of physical culture and sports; and a holistic approach to sustainable development educational activities. General methods of analysis, systematization and generalization of information have been used.

Scientific novelty. For the first time, the content of competences in the field of education for sustainable development, proposed by the UNECE expert group for education workers training, has been adapted to the training of future specialists in physical culture and sports.

Conclusions. The European concept of education for sustainable development has not been widely supported in Ukrainian educational circles. The Law of Ukraine «On Education» proclaims the purpose of education as raising the educational level of citizens to ensure the sustainable development of Ukraine and its European choice. The modern Ukrainian educational system is oriented towards the concept of the New Ukrainian School (NUS). Ideas and basic approaches to sustainable development are an integral part of the NUS concept. However, it is much smaller than the concept of Education for Sustainable Development and is aimed only at formal education for young people. The competences in the field of education for sustainable development, proposed by UNECE for education workers training, have 39 positions. These competencies can be filled with relevant content to prepare future physical education and sports professionals for sustainable development education. At this stage of development of the education system in Ukraine, these competences cannot be formed in full due to lack of educational support for sustainable development in our country. The prospect of further research is to identify and substantiate the competences of future specialists in physical education and sports in the field of education for sustainable development from the standpoint of the concept of the New Ukrainian School and the standards of higher education of Ukraine.
