Abstract

Pedagogical competence is a necessary component of the specialists’-to-be training, as it reflects the teacher’s level of willingness to work with students, transfer knowledge and develop skills at a high professional and methodical level.

The purpose of the article. However, we believe that generalizing approaches to pedagogical competence as a scientific problem and specifying the pedagogical competence of teacher-choreographers is not elucidated enough in the scientific literature, which is the purpose of our publication.

Methodology. The methodological basis of the study is represented by the scientific, objective, and general postulates of pedagogy on the humanistic direction of education. When working on the article, inductive and deductive methods were applied to summarize and analyze scientific literature.

The scientific novelty lies in the generalization of approaches how to define the professional competence of choreography teachers-to-be and to identify the main groups of their competences.

Results of the research. In the course of the study, we generalized the essence of such notions as «competence», «pedagogical competence», and «pedagogical competence of choreography teachers-to-be». It is found that scientists consider «competence» as a system of knowledge and skills necessary for the pursuit of effective professional activity; ability to perform professional duties; ability to achieve the purpose and result of professional activity, etc. «Pedagogical competence» is understood as the integration of the appropriate level of professional knowledge and skills of the teacher and his/her personal qualities. The professional competence of choreography teachers-to-be can be defined as a set of competences necessary for successful pursuit of professional activity in the field of choreographic art, and the competences should include a variety of general, artistic, choreographic skills, and individual and personal characteristics.

Conclusions. Approaches to the definition of the essence of the key concepts for our study are summarized: competence, pedagogical competence, and basic competences that a choreography teacher should possess.
