THE ROLE OF THE PROJECT METHOD IN TEACHING BUSINESS ENGLISH AT HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

The article reveals the essence of the project method and the importance of its implementation in teaching Business English. Due to current personality-oriented trends in teaching, the introduction of the project method in higher educational institutions has become an integral component of the educational process, as it stirs up individual research abilities of each student.

Article’s purpose is to analyze the possibility of using the project method when teaching business foreign language at higher educational institutions.

Methodology. To obtain the most significant results of the study, the methods of theoretical analysis, comparison, modeling, systematization and generalization were used.

Scientific novelty. The article outlines the peculiarities and advantages of the project method when teaching Business English. A sample project on the topic «Advertising» is suggested for analysis.

Conclusions. The project method is a topical subject for many researchers. Peculiarities and stages of the project method are investigated, new types of projects are defined and principles of implementation of this method into teaching foreign languages are studied. The criteria of students’ efficiency to work at projects are singled out, as well as the criteria of project assesment. The role of the teacher as a coordinator of students’ work is recognized an integral component of project activity. The role of the project method in teaching Business English is proven. A sample project on the topic «Advertising» is suggested and described in detail: the purpose and result (formation of habbits and development of skills) are indicated and a detailed algorithm of project procedure is presented. The prospect of further research is to develop the technology for combining the project method with other methods of creative activity within the course «Business English».
