USE OF AUDIO DESCRIPTION IN THE PROCESS OF TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The article reveals the potential of using audio description of video fragments in the process of teaching and learning foreign languages.
The purpose of the work is to analyze the main theoretical basis on this topic, to characterize audio descriptions and to identify what is its practicality and effectiveness.
Methodology. In the course of research, general scientific theoretical research methods were used: collection of material, analysis of theoretical and methodological literature, analysis of websites and mobile applications. The use of audio descriptions for feature / documentary films in the classroom is a promising direction in teaching a foreign language.
The novelty of the study lies in the fact that audio description, being an integral part of audiovisual translation, provides instant feedback thanks to oral explanations of what is happening on the screen: the emotions of characters, descriptions of silent scenes, landscapes and locations, the interior and exterior of houses, the behavior of the main characters.
The following conclusions were made: the use of audio description in teaching a foreign language is based on one of the main methodological principles – the principle of clarity. The use of audio descriptions in the process of teaching foreign languages helps create didactic materials that are new in form and content: when describing video materials in a foreign language, it serves to replenish vocabulary and grasp grammar. The use of websites and mobile gadgets enables students to receive information in a convenient and interesting for them format and have access to an educational resource in their spare time, which contributes to improving the quality of education.
