DEVELOPMENT OF PSYCHOTECHNICS AS A SCIENCE OF PERSONAL PROFESSIONALIZATION IN THE HISTORY OF PEDAGOGY: A DEFINITIONAL ANALYSIS

The purpose of the article – to carry out a definitional analysis of the development of psychotechnics as a psychological and pedagogical field that studies the professional activity of the individual, professional orientation and professional selection in the history of education.
Methodology. The methodological basis of the research is the works of Ukrainian historians of pedagogy related to the development of education in the 20th and early 30th of the twentieth century. In the process of writing the article, the following general scientific research methods were used: analysis, synthesis, comparison, and generalization. In order to show the historical and pedagogical content of the phenomenon of psychotechnics, we used the following special research methods: historical-comparative, chronological, historical-structural, constructive-genetic.
The scientific novelty of the research, which formed the basis of this article, is the comprehensive coverage of the concept of «psychotechnics» in the context of the history of education in the first third of the twentieth century.
Conclusions. The carried out definitional analysis of the problem of psychotechnics development in Ukraine gave grounds for developing a definition of the concept of «psychotechnics» based on an understanding of its holistic structure. We believe that psychotechnics is a psychological and pedagogical practice-oriented scientific field that developed in the first third of the twentieth century in different countries of the world with the aim of improving the professional activity of an individual through professional orientation and professional selection.
Promising for further research is the characterization of various aspects of the development of psychotechnics in the history of education, in particular, the development of a periodization of this development and the definition of its specificity during each of the outlined periods.
