Abstract

The acquisition of modern soft skills by penitentiary system specialists is an extremely important task in terms of improving the efficiency of their professional activities. This means that they must have not only professional competencies, but also the ability to work in a team, adapt to changes, solve situational tasks and problems of varying complexity, and build high-quality communication interactions with different categories of people.

The purpose of the article is to find ways to intensify the development of «soft skills» of penitentiary specialists in the process of graduate professional training of the national higher education system.

The methodology of the study is based on the analysis, generalization and systematization of information resources, normative documents on the training of penitentiary specialists, including the development of «soft skills», whose professional activities should take into account the peculiarities of reforming the penitentiary system, building a barrier-free professional environment, choosing methods of effective influence, resocialization and algorithms of communication processes with prisoners of war, convicts and prisoners.

Conclusions. Soft skills are not purely human qualities and personality characteristics, they are soft competencies, i.e. the ability to act independently and effectively within the limits of one’s authority. In order to develop soft skills, it is important to use modern pedagogical technologies, among which the most effective are the following: technologies for the development of critical thinking, problem-based and project-based learning, case technologies and technologies with game elements, health and information and communication technologies, including virtual and augmented reality.
