Abstract

Professional training of teachers in the modern realities of the information age requires higher education to respond immediately to social challenges, and labour market needs by changing educational programmes, introducing the latest information and communication technologies, and developing universal skills and abilities that will allow future teachers to be flexible, think critically, and navigate the array of information.

The article aims to delve into the international research project NETTING. This significant initiative tackles the issue of professional training of future teachers in the context of media education through a grant programme. This programme stands out for its unique ability to equip higher education students with media literacy and empower them with the tools and strategies to implement media education in their own teaching.

The research methodology correlates with the basic principles, methods and forms of organising and conducting a grant project, which was created based on an interdisciplinary approach for widespread implementation, particularly for higher education students majoring in 014 Secondary Education. This approach allows all project participants to see the problem of combating disinformation and propaganda from different methodological perspectives. This allows students to form an understanding of the main EU institutions, as well as to learn about best practices in combating disinformation and propaganda. The proposed methodology of the grant programme involves analysing the linguistic means of presenting information in modern media, new media, video and audio products. The axiological approach allows students to form a value-based approach to their own media environment and develops critical thinking in general.

The scientific novelty lies in its focus on the first-hand experience of implementing the grant programme «European Experience in Combating Disinformation and Propaganda: Basic Skills for the Teacher of the Future» (Project: 101127022 – NETTING – ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH) at the Faculty of Philology of T.H. Shevchenko National University «Chernihiv Colehium.» This unique perspective adds a fresh dimension to the existing body of knowledge.

Conclusions. This project will greatly complement the existing EU research of T.H. Shevchenko National University «Chernihiv Colehium», as the university is focused on training and educating a new generation of teachers in various fields. The NETTING project expands and deepens attention not only to European studies but also to the basic values of European civil society, including infomedia and digital media literacy, and provides all the necessary tools to use this knowledge in their professional activities.
