The objective of this work is to compare the mythological heritage of Japan and Ukraine in order to trace how archaic traditions are preserved in the cultural memory of nations, and how they influence the formation of new artistic practices and pedagogical forms.
The methodological basis involves the use of a complex of various methods, including: analysis of scientific and journalistic literature to understand the prospects of the processed data, comparison in order to find common elements of different cultural traditions, which directly influences the teaching of art history and cultural studies, philosophical disciplines at all levels of the educational process; methods of systematization and generalization were used to formulate conclusions and recommendations. Several methodological approaches were combined during the research, including: competency-based, activity-based, personality-oriented, which assist in the processes of forming the professional competence of future educators, engaging them in active educational and cognitive activities, as well as taking into account the individual characteristics of higher education seekers.
Scientific novelty. In the article, it is demonstrated that Ukrainian folklore heritage occupies a special place in our lives and therefore deserves detailed scientific research, interpretation of its symbols and signs, etc., as it is unique and colorful in every region of Ukraine. As the experience of the Japanese shows, it is possible not only to preserve one's archaism through the centuries but also to build modern content on its basis, interesting to various age groups of citizens and popular beyond one's country.
Conclusions. Through the Japanese-Ukrainian mythological comparison, we have managed to analyze the process of their modernization and reflection in artistic works, which trace powerful images, symbols, and values of Ukrainian resistance to the Russian imperialistic machine. Russian aggression forces us to look at familiar things differently, at people, to rethink our own views, and to set priorities. It is precisely for this reason that our artists create «uncomfortable» works, in which they either return us to the past or demonstrate the present without showing the future. At the moment, we are «inside» the process of creating a new Ukrainian mythology, which deserves the attention of recipients and further consideration. Researchers continue to debate the reliability of myths, their classification, relevance for creating a national idea, however, the creation of a myth is a natural reaction of people to knowledge about the past, to the emotional and sensory sphere, to the values that are hidden in these stories, the moral qualities on which state authority and the implicit education of a conscious citizen are built.
