TRADITIONS OF THE «NEW DRAMA» IN M. KULISH’S SATIRICAL COMEDY «MYNA MAZAYLO»: MATERIALS FOR STUDYING IN THE LESSONS OF UKRAINIAN LITERATURE

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to outline in M. Kulish's satirical comedy «Myna Mazaylo» a scope of ideas that reinforce the genetic connection with the traditions of the European «New Drama», in particular, «Drama of Ideas»; to develop methodological materials for studying comedy in Ukrainian literature classes.

Research methodology: close reading approach, hermeneutic approach, structural-semiotic analysis, cultural approach and comparative analysis.

The scientific novelty is based on the topicality of outlining the specifics of the traditions and worldview guidelines of the European «New Drama» in the comedy «Mina Mazaylo» written by M. Kulish and the comparison of the ideological ensemble and motif scope of the work with the modern European dramaturgical discourse of ideas of the beginning of the 20th century

Conclusions: the epistemological significance of the integration of European theatrical traditions with the Ukrainian literary process of the period of modernism at the beginning of the 20th century has been determined, in particular, the traditions of the European «Nnew Drama» have been outlined in the satirical comedy «Myna Mazaylo» written by M. Kulish/ This is an outstanding landmark text of Ukrainian drama of the period of the «Executed Renaissance». It was found that the use of methods and aesthetic and ideological guidelines of the European «New Drama» in the analyzed satirical comedy of M. Kulish has an important methodological significance for understanding the development of Ukrainian dramaturgy of the modern period in the aspect of revealing an intensive dialogue with European literary trends and groups. It was revealed that the integration of Ukrainian and European artistic traditions deepens the understanding of the genetic connection of literatures and makes it possible to speak methodologically about the presence of common cultural aspects between Ukrainian theatre and European dramaturgical traditions. The mentioned perspective gives an opportunity to study expressive works of Ukrainian literature, in particular the drama of M. Kulish in the 11th grade of Ukrainian secondary schools, in the comparative mode with the works of European literature of the 20th century. Emphasis is placed on the fact that the satirical comedy «Myna Mazaylo» can be interpreted as an example of the drama uniqueness of M. Kulish and his ability to integrate innovative theatrical approaches into Ukrainian dramas that enriched Ukrainian literature in the beginning of the 20th century.
