The purpose of the article is to analyze the first European defense industry strategy and Ukraine's place in it. To assess its significance for the foreign policy course and the formation of the common defense policy of the EU.
Research methodology. The article is based on the analysis of EU documents and analytical comments of European and Ukrainian experts. The article uses methods of scientific research: analytical, prognostic and synthesis.
The novelty of the work. For the first time, the adoption of the European Defense Industrial Strategy by the European Commission and its potential impact on changes in the European security paradigm are analyzed.
Conclusions. In the spring of 2024, the EU approved the Defense Industry Strategy for the first time in its history, which should change the defense culture on the continent. The strategy is aimed at improving the current tool: The EU's Defense Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB) by improving the procurement system, increasing and modernizing European arms production, improving the mechanism of delivery of defense products to all EU countries. The main idea of the Strategy is joint procurement, joint production to strengthen self-sufficiency and reliance on European resources in matters of EU defense policy.
