The relevance of the article is determined by the formation of students’ information culture and literacy, which expands the influence of mass media on young people. This is conditioned by the need for a person-oriented approach to the development of students’ critical thinking and the formation of a protective mechanism against the significant influence of mass media. Without a deep and comprehensive mastery of the volumes and flows of information, which are growing all the time, the social development of society is impossible.
The purpose of the article is to analyze the content of information culture as an important aspect of higher education for students of the Faculty of Physical Education.
Scientific novelty. It aims at improving the methodology and strategy of content selection, methods, and organizational forms of education and upbringing, which correspond to the tasks of the development of the future teacher in the conditions of the information society.
Conclusions: Sports teachers need to use IT in their professional activities because it optimizes the educational process, rationalizes the teacher's work, speeds up the processing of various data, and creates conditions for developing physical education programs and the academic and training process.
The majority of graduates are not ready to use IT in their future professional activities since the curricula of higher educational institutions, in particular, the faculty of Physical Education, lack courses that would prepare them for such activities.
Mastering information culture involves searching, analyzing, and generalizing information, and skills in working with manuals, textbooks, and other sources of information.
In the future, the resources of higher educational institutions in the field of physical education and sports should be combined for the purpose of creating a single electronic database with the aim of further integration into European educational requirements.
