PECULIARITIES OF ORGANISATION OF INDEPENDENT LEARNING OF MASTER’S STUDENTS WITHIN THE COURSE «FOREIGN LANGUAGE (ENGLISH)»

The article highlights the problem of organization and realization of independent work of Masters – journalists while taking “Foreign Language (English)” course. The importance of higher education students’ independent work as one of the major instruments of improving the foreign language acquisition level is emphasized, the challenges appearing in the process of independent work organization within the course are considered, the types and forms of independent work are defined, taking into account their effectiveness and based on the peculiarity of distance learning. Moreover, the ways of using modern internet technologies for educational process optimization are outlined.
The purpose of the article is to present grounded on the theoretical and practical experience analysis of the forms of independent work organization and to single out the most effective ones for the students of the second (master’s) level of higher education within the course «Foreign Language (English)» in the process of distance learning.
Methodology is based on the following theoretical and empirical research methods: analysis and generalization of pedagigical and methodological sources related to the problem of students’ independent work organization, students’ self-study observation, systematization and generalization of the data.
Scientific novelty. The first attempt has been made to characterise the peculiarities of independent work organization of Masters of Journalism within the practical course of a foreign language, to analyse types and forms of independent work in terms of their effectiveness.
Conclusions. The article accentuates the necessity of improving the independent work organization in the process of learning a foreign language, the challenges are described and the ways of overcoming them are outlined as a result of theoretical research and practical experience. The research singles out effective forms of Masters’ independent work realization, using the Internet in the process of distance learning.
Prospects for further research involve developing more effective tasks for self-study organization and analyzing teacher’s role in this process.
