The article addresses the problem of forming health-preserving competencies in middle school students in the process of physical education through the use of fitness. Emphasis is placed on the potential of fitness as an integral pedagogical tool that integrates motor, educational, and educational (upbringing) components and ensures the formation of students’ conscious and responsible attitudes toward their own health. The possibilities of integrating fitness into the content of physical education lessons are substantiated, with a focus on developing knowledge of a healthy lifestyle, forming value orientations, and acquiring practical skills of self-regulation of motor activity within a modern educational environment.
The purpose of the study is to theoretically substantiate fitness as a pedagogical tool for the formation of health-preserving competencies in middle school students within the system of physical education.
The scientific novelty of the study lies in substantiating fitness as an integral pedagogical tool for forming health-preserving competencies in middle school students, clarifying their structural components, as well as the pedagogical conditions, content, and methods of implementation within the system of physical education.
The research methodology is based on the application of a set of theoretical methods of scientific inquiry (analysis, synthesis, and generalization), which made it possible to systematize modern scientific approaches to the problem of forming students’ health-preserving competencies and to substantiate the pedagogical possibilities of using fitness in the educational process of general secondary education institutions.
Conclusions. The expediency of using fitness as an effective pedagogical tool for forming health-preserving competencies in middle school students is substantiated. The structure of these competencies is clarified, and the pedagogical conditions, content, and methods of using fitness from the standpoint of the competence-based approach are determined, which creates prerequisites for increasing the effectiveness of the physical education process in general secondary education institutions.
