Abstract

The article highlights the life and professional path of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Boris Volodymyrovych Yakovenko – an outstanding scientist, teacher and organizer of education. His leading role in the formation of the system of chemical and biological education in Chernihiv and the creation of the corresponding faculty at the Chernihiv Pedagogical Institute (now the T. Н. Shevchenko National University «Chernihiv Colehium») is revealed. The main stages of the formation of the material and technical base of the faculty, the establishment of educational laboratories and the development of scientific areas, in particular in the field of biochemistry of aquatic organisms, are described. The pedagogical skill, humanity and high moral principles of Professor Yakovenko, his significant contribution to the education of scientific personnel and the formation of traditions of academic integrity are emphasized. Scientific achievements, organizational initiatives and awards are noted, which confirm his significant role in the development of domestic education and science.

The purpose of the study is to comprehensively cover the life and professional path of B. V. Yakovenko, determine his contribution to the formation of chemical and biological education in Chernihiv, the development of the material and technical base of the faculty and the formation of scientific and pedagogical traditions in the higher education institution.

Methodology. The study uses historical-biographical, problem-chronological and system-structural approaches. The source base consists of archival materials, scientific publications, memories of colleagues and students, as well as official documents of the Chernihiv Pedagogical Institute (now the T. Н. Shevchenko National University «Chernihiv Colehium»).

Scientific novelty. For the first time, a generalized analysis of the role of B. V. Yakovenko as the founder of the Chemical and Biological Faculty in Chernihiv was carried out, his contribution to the creation of educational laboratories, the development of scientific research in the field of biochemistry of aquatic organisms, and the formation of the principles of academic integrity in the educational environment was revealed.

Conclusions. The activities of Professor Borys Yakovenko significantly influenced the development of regional biological science and pedagogical education. His scientific achievements, organizational initiatives, pedagogical skills, and high moral principles contributed to the training of qualified scientific personnel and the establishment of stable academic traditions that retain their value even in modern conditions.
