The article presents the results of a study demonstrating that the definition of the concept of «health» should not only be scientifically substantiated—namely, comply with the principles and requirements of systems theory, management science, modern management, causal reasoning, and contemporary realities—but must also strictly correspond to the Constitution of Ukraine, its guarantees and principles, the current legislation of Ukraine, and human physiology.
The study is of a fundamental nature, as it for the first time integrates theoretical novelty, methodological depth, interdisciplinarity, and a potential impact on further research.
Purpose of the study is to assess the compliance of the extended definition of the concept of «health» with the systems approach, the legislation of Ukraine and international standards, adaptability to modern challenges, human physiology, and practical applicability.
Methods. The study employed systems analysis, conceptual modeling, SWOT analysis, case study, comparative analysis, structural-logical analysis, bibliosemantic analysis, abstraction and generalization, expert evaluation, comparative legal analysis, and critical analysis of scientific literature.
Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that, within the proposed extended definition of the concept of «health», health is, for the first time, presented and comprehensively substantiated as a dynamic polysystemic state.
Conclusions. The extended definition of the term «health» meets the criteria of systems theory and the systems approach and fully complies with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine «Fundamentals of the Legislation of Ukraine on Health Care» and the Law of Ukraine «On the Public Health System». It uniquely combines legislative norms with innovative approaches to understanding health and, after minor refinements, may be approved as an academic standard for the Ukrainian public health system. The proposed definition does not contradict current Ukrainian legislation; however, it is significantly broader than the official definition, incorporates additional aspects not envisaged by law, and may be applied in contexts where an extended interpretation is permissible.
