Abstract

Article's purpose is to investigate the impact of sleep duration and quality on the psychological, physical, and technical condition of shooting athletes and their performance.

Methodology. The following methods were employed: data analysis and synthesis; pedagogical observation and experimentation; induction and generalization; and statistical processing of information. The conclusions and proposed measures, methods and means are based on experiments research scientists in sports, physiology, psychology, on personal experience of training and participating in pistol shooting competitions.

Scientific novelty of the article lies in determining the impact of sleep, preparedness and effectiveness, particularly among rifle and pistol shooters. The work also involves searching and implementing methods and means of improving the condition of athletes in the training group to help them achieve higher sporting standards during training and competitions.

Conclusions. The results of research conducted by scientists from around the world, as well as observations from my own athletic career, confirm the existence of a correlation between sleep and athletic performance, especially in sports where psychological preparation is most important. It has been found that even a slight decrease in the quality and/or quantity of nighttime sleep affects an athlete's performance: reducing concentration, the ability to focus on the present moment, and the sense of pace and time; increasing emotional perception of results, the risk of injury, and accelerating fatigue. It has been tested the impact of sleep on one's own behavior and feelings during training and competition periods in 2023–2025. We have been made a selection of tools that can help improve various aspects of rifle and pistol shooters preparedness. In addition, measures were proposed that should be implemented during the organization of the competition process.
