Purpose. The article aims to examine best practices for implementing gender approaches within European Union higher education institutions (HEIs) and to identify key aspects of adapting this experience to the Ukrainian context.
Methodology. To achieve the research objectives, the study analyzed and synthesized EU regulatory documents concerning gender integration in HEIs. Empirical research focused on the experiences of Denmark, Germany, Finland, and Sweden, complemented by a comparative analysis of similar processes in Ukraine. The results identify foundations for the systemic integration of gender equality principles into educational, research, and management processes through staff training, curriculum updates, the creation of a supportive environment, and performance monitoring.
Scientific novelty. The study generalizes the experience of implementing gender approaches at the O. M. Lazarevskyi Educational and Research Institute of History and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines. The findings provide a framework for the T. H. Shevchenko National University «Chernihiv Collegium» to develop an action plan for its Gender Equality Strategy, aligned with European best practices.
Conclusions. The study concludes that European experience in gender mainstreaming significantly shapes the gender-sensitive worldview of both faculty and students. It leads to more balanced gender representation in leadership and enriches the content of educational programs. Furthermore, gender education fosters the development of students' soft skills and encourages participation in anti-discrimination and human rights initiatives. Ultimately, gender culture is becoming a core professional competency for both educators and students.
