This paper examines the use of public service announcements as a means of shaping value orientations among future translators within the context of an intercultural approach to teaching French language and culture. It defines the concept study of french language and culture of «social values» and their role in French-language public service announcements and Ukrainian-language advertisements on similar topics. The use of public service announcements as a teaching aid in French language and culture classes is justified. The stages involved in working with video advertising are described, with a view to achieving the practical, educational and formative objectives of teaching as a whole. It has been demonstrated that public service announcements can serve as an effective means of shaping the value orientations of future translators within the context of an intercultural approach.
The aim of this study is to demonstrate the value of using public service announcements as a means of shaping the value orientations of future translators within the context of an intercultural approach to teaching French language and culture.
The methodological framework is based on an intercultural approach to the teaching of foreign languages and cultures. The following methods were employed in the course of the research: a method of scholarly analysis of the literature on the research topic; a method of terminological analysis of the concept of «social values»; and a method of cultural analysis of selected advertising materials; synthesis and summarisation of data; modelling method (formulating personal opinions and providing methodological recommendations on the use of selected advertising materials in the teaching process).
Scientific novelty. The study identifies and justifies the use of public service announcements to shape the value orientations of future translators whilst they are learning French language and culture. It has been established that public service announcements can serve as an effective teaching aid, enabling the simultaneous achievement of practical, educational and formative learning objectives in the classroom.
