MATTERS OF MOTHERHOOD AND CHILDHOOD IN THE CREATIVE WORK OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GALICIAN WOMEN'S MOVEMENT IN THE INTERWAR PERIOD

The article covers the issues of educational influence of a nationally conscious mother on the formation of the child's personality, Ukrainian family and nation in the creative work of the organizers and activists of the Galician women's movement in the interwar period. The focus is on the importance of the mother in nurturing Christian virtues and a sense of patriotism in children from an early age. The organizational and educational initiative of Galician women activists to celebrate Mother's Day by the Ukrainian society is revealed. The purpose, tasks and content of the first celebrations on the occasion of the Ukrainian Mother’s Day in Galicia are characterized; the role of the Union of Ukrainian Women, reading rooms of Prosvita, members of the Native School, Farmer, Plast, Meadow and Falcons societies in its organization and realization is shown.
Article’s purpose. To reveal the issues of motherhood and childhood in the creative work of the representatives of the Galician women's movement in the interwar period, to substantiate their present day importance.
Methodology. Analysis and synthesis, systematization and generalization of data presented in the historical and pedagogical literature.
Scientific novelty. The article focuses on the determinism of the educational impact of a nationally conscious mother on the formation of the younger generation in a stateless state.
Conclusions. It is stated that in their creative work the organizers and activists of the Galician women's movement of the interwar period focused on patriotic and Christian education as a basis for preventing the denationalization of the younger generation of the Ukrainian people in the Polish statehood. The educational significance of the celebration of the Ukrainian Mother’s Day in Galicia within the Polish state is substantiated both as a means of awakening the national consciousness of women and as a means of raising respect for the mother of a nationally conscious young generation. The importance of continuing the educational traditions embodied in the content of the celebration of Ukrainian Mother's Day in Galicia in modern conditions is proved.
