Abstract

The concepts of «motor qualities», «motor skills and abilities» are often used in the process of physical education, in particular in educational discourse, as well as in the process of sports training. There are many authors who study the development of motor qualities and the formation of motor skills and abilities. However, researchers often have their own interpretation and definition of these key factors in physical education and sport. Our arguments and conclusions are based on the primary sources of biomechanics classics, as well as on our own research, which should be brought to a common denominator in the future.

The purpose of the study is to define and classify motor qualities, skills and abilities on the basis of source data (literature).

The research methodology is based on the study of biomechanics classics and methodological principles of a differential approach to the definition of motor qualities, abilities and skills.

The scientific novelty of the research lies in the correct definition and interpretation of motor qualities, skills and abilities both in biomechanics and in other disciplines: theory and methods of physical education, theory of sport, etc.

Conclusions. The research of historical source base gives grounds to draw the following conclusions: motor qualities develop, and motor skills are formed.
