The purpose of scientific research is to analyze the experience of studying the history of the European Union in general secondary education institutions of Ukraine, in particular the city of Chernihiv, to determine the problems, opportunities, prospects and ways to improve the quality of teaching of the mentioned issues in modern national schools.
The research methodology of the mentioned problem consists in the study of normative documentation in the field of secondary education, publications of domestic scientists and the processing of information on the teaching of EU history provided by Chernihiv institutions of general secondary education during 2022–2024.
The scientific novelty consists in a comprehensive analysis of the real situation and prospects for the study of the history of the EU and its basic values in general secondary education institutions of Ukraine and the city of Chernihiv in particular.
Conclusions. The problem posed is relevant in view of the European integration foreign policy course of Ukraine, the need to form a new generation of Ukrainians based on the basic values of the EU and the creation of a new Ukrainian school integrated into the European educational space, which acquires special importance in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The study of the history of the EU and the implementation of its basic values in general secondary education is implemented in the educational, extracurricular and pedagogic components of the educational process.
Educational online platforms, advanced training courses at higher educational institutions, regional institutes of postgraduate education, centers for professional development of pedagogical workers are useful for improving the quality of teaching EU subjects.
Institutions of higher education that train future teachers provide important support.
The relevant experience of the schools of the city of Chernihiv shows that Chernihiv pedagogical workers successfully use all the mentioned possibilities of the modern Ukrainian school to achieve a high result.
