The study used general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, and generalisation.

Scientific novelty. The article summarises the experience and current realities of the development of higher education in Ukraine as a participant in the Bologna Process. The peculiarities of higher education development in the context of Ukraine's accession to the European Higher Education Area are determined.

Conclusions. Thus, the Bologna Declaration was signed on 19 June 1999 in Bologna by the Ministers of Education of 29 countries of Western and Central Europe. The Bologna Process is a set of activities of European governmental institutions (at the level of ministries of education), universities, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations related to higher education aimed at achieving the goals set out in the Bologna Declaration. The strategic goal of the Bologna Process is to create a European higher education area that is competitive and attractive to Europeans, as well as to students and researchers from all over the world. Ukraine joined the Bologna Process at the European Ministerial Conference in Bergen in May 2005. As a participant in the Bologna Process, Ukraine has to solve a number of key tasks that involve the introduction of the main instruments of the European Higher Education Area: the National Qualifications Framework, the innovative European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System and the European Diploma Supplement.
