Abstract

The relevance of the study of academic integrity in the context of attitude and willingness to uphold the relevant principles on the part of student youth is determined by the desire of the Ukrainian higher education for a new dimension of academic culture, which is characterized by the establishment of moral norms and values in the field of learning, teaching and research. The purpose of the article is to empirically study the peculiarities of the development of academic integrity in the context of higher education (on the example of Chernihiv National University of Technology). Methodology. An empirical study was conducted on the basis of the Chernihiv National University of Technology by questioning with the author's questionnaire «Academic intehrity: the youth's view». 170 people aged 18 to 50 participated in the survey. Among them, persons between the ages of 18 and 22 are 86%, and 14% are between 23 and 50. There were more female respondents (59%) than male respondents (41%). Scientific novelty. The concepts and types of academic integrity are the topics of many lectures, webinars and trainings across Ukraine. Insufficient number of research focuse on the consequences of violations of academic integrity. Higher education students are informed about the fundamental foundations of academic integrity but consider as a norm to violate them. The study identified the potential of developing the competence of an academically virtuous competitive specialist in the context of extra-curricular work with applicants for higher education. Conclusions. During the empirical study, the primary reasons contributing to the prosperity of academic dishonesty in Ukrainian higher education institutions were the lack of experience of higher education students to express their opinions and the absence of fear of punishment for violations of academic integrity. Regarding the effectiveness of measures in the field of forming a culture of academic integrity, the students of higher education emphasize the role of supervisors of academic groups in the format of extra-curricular activities.
