The purpose of the article is to characterize the peculiarities of the development of Ukrainian education as a synergy of educational institutions in the eighteenth century in different contexts: national and European.
The methodology of the study of the problem of the development of Ukrainian education in the eighteenth century is based on narrative, hermeneutic and historical-comparative methods, which provided a comprehensive approach to the study of the topic. The narrative and hermeneutic methods provided for the collection, description and evaluation of historical and pedagogical facts related to the development of education in Ukraine in the eighteenth century. The historical-comparative method allowed us to characterize Ukrainian education as a dynamic phenomenon in the national and European contexts. The study also used general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis and generalization.
The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that it summarizes the experience of the development of Ukrainian education in the eighteenth century as a national and European phenomenon.
Conclusions. The peculiarities of the development of education in Ukraine in the eighteenth century can be characterized in two dimensions: national and European. The perception of the Western European cultural and educational experience by Ukrainian school took place at different levels by borrowing certain elements of this experience, primarily its content and forms. The European vector of Ukrainian education is represented by several components (the use of Latin and educational literature written by European scholars in the educational process of Ukrainian educational institutions, the study of European languages, as well as the implementation of certain traditions of Jesuit or other Catholic schools; publishing works by Ukrainian scholars in European printing houses and dissemination of these works in the cultural field of European countries; Ukrainians studying at European universities and vice versa, the study of Europeans in Ukrainian educational institutions, and so on). However, it should be emphasized that this was not a one-sided process: European education was also enriched by the achievements of Ukrainian culture, in particular through the dissemination of works by Ukrainian scholars in other countries.
