The problem of the state of physical education in higher education institutions at the present stage is of extremely important importance, because in the difficult period of war, the health, physical fitness and physical working capacity of student youth are more important than ever. This is also the important strategic importance of physical education and the level of the country's defense capability.
The purpose of the study is to study and analyze the current state of physical education in higher educational institutions of Ukraine at the current stage in war conditions.
The methodological basic of this scientific research is the use of systemic and personality-oriented approaches to the analysis of scientific and methodological sources and regulatory legal acts that ensure the implementation of the educational process in physical education and physical culture and health activities of students of higher educational institutions of Ukraine. The work conducted a multi-level systematic analysis of scientific and methodological literature, based on the following levels of knowledge: philosophical, general scientific, partially scientific, and specifically scientific.
Scientific novelty. Based on the analysis of scientific and methodological, special and regulatory literature on the topic of the study, the current state of physical education was described and the main problems of physical education in higher education institutions of Ukraine under martial law were identified.
Conclusions. A study of the state of physical education in higher educational institutions of Ukraine at the current stage in the conditions of the functioning of the education system under martial law revealed a number of serious problems:
– the destruction of the regulatory framework for physical education has led to a large number of contradictions, which negatively affects the health of students;
– teaching the academic discipline «Physical Education», which is carried out in most higher education institutions only in the first year of study, does not ensure comprehensive development of the personality, the formation of a healthy lifestyle, and also does not contribute to the continuity and consistency of physical education classes throughout the entire period of study. Therefore, the main principles of forming state policy in the field of physical culture and sports are not being met;
– the distance and blended learning format contributed to physical inactivity and negatively affected the level of physical activity, physical fitness, and health of students of higher education institutions in Ukraine;
– the experience of implementing distance learning in physical education for teachers and students cannot be called successful due to the unpreparedness of individual participants in the educational process for changes caused by the security situation;
– negative trends of weak student motivation for physical education classes have intensified;
– the residual attitude towards physical education on the part of individual heads of higher education institutions demotivates participants in the educational process. There is often an attitude towards physical education as something secondary, ignoring regulatory and legal acts, reducing the number of hours of physical education in favor of other academic disciplines, reducing staff, and insufficient funding for physical education and health activities;
– it must be noted that the level of interest of young students in physical education and sports is not high enough.
