FEASIBILITIES OF UKRAINIAN MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES DURING STUDYING OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article reveals the feasibilities of using Ukrainian Massive Open Online Courses at the English Language classes and their implementation during distance learning at higher education institutions.
Due to the necessity of providing stable and continuous learning under matrial law, the application of Massive Open Online Courses is an integral component of educational process.
Article’s purpose is to analyze the advisability of using Massive Open Online Courses and the opportunity of their implementation during teaching of foreign languages (English) at higher education institutions.
Methodology. To obtain the most significant results of the study, the methods of theoretical analysis, juxtaposition, comparison, systematization and generalization are used.
Scientific novelty. The article outlines the peculiarities and advantages of Massive Open Online Courses during teaching of foreign languages (English). Materials from Ukrainian Massive Open Online Courses such as Prometheus and EdEra (Educational Era) are offered for analysis.
Conclusions. Massive Open Online Courses is a topical subject for a modern scientific community. Peculiarities and the role of Massive Open Online Courses are investigated, patterns of implementation of such courses during teaching English are studied. It has been proven that Massive Open Online Courses may become an integral component of educational process in distant format providing their application is well thought-out. Sample of the courses, that are optimal for applying at the English Language classes, are described in detail. The prospect of further research is to develop a technology for combining online courses with other methods of creative activity during teaching of foreign languages (English).
