GENERAL CONCEPTS AND DETERMINANTS OF LEGAL CULTURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS

Problem. The process of forming legal culture, legal awareness and legal consciousness of Ukrainian higher education students requires the search for new ways of implementation and their actualization. The leading role in the formation of the legal culture of higher education students belongs to Ukrainian universities. Domestic universities develop the content and legal foundations of legal culture (bachelor’s and master’s levels), and legal awareness and legal thinking of education students are also formed.
The purpose of the proposed research is to determine the general concepts and determinants of the process of forming legal culture of higher education students of domestic universities.
Research methodology is based on the general principles of philosophy, basic modern provisions of pedagogical science, psychology and reflects the essence and content of the formation of legal culture of higher education students of bachelor’s and master’s degrees of various specialties.
Object of research: educational process in higher education institutions of Ukraine.
Scientific novelty. It is substantiated that the general concepts and determinants of the legal culture of higher education students of various specialties are legal education, legal awareness, legal literacy, legal consciousness.
Conclusions. 1. At the present stage in the theory and methodology of teaching, there is a need for a clearer definition of the general concepts and determinants of «legal culture», «legal awareness», «legal consciousness» and «legal literacy». 2. The general concepts and determinants of the legal culture of higher education students are defined as legal education, legal awareness, legal literacy, legal consciousness. 3. The leading role in the formation of the legal culture of higher education students belongs to Ukrainian universities, which develop the content and legal foundations of legal culture (at the bachelor’s and master’s levels), as well as form legal awareness and legal thinking. 4. Legal culture is the result of legal education. 5. The components of legal education for higher education students are as follows: the formation of a system of knowledge in each student on the basics of the state and law, the connection of law with environmental activities; the formation of respect for state authorities; instilling skills of legally conscious behavior; the education of intolerance to offenses.
