The aim of this work is to examine contemporary approaches to academic sculpture education, the influence of modernist movements on the development of this art form–particularly in terms of changes in materials, methods of form-creation, and the introduction of unconventional technical solutions- and the original approaches of contemporary Ukrainian sculptor Serhii Vlasenko in the context of introducing the «Scrap Art» movement into the academic sculpture curriculum for future artists.
The research methodology involves the application of a comprehensive set of methods–historical, structural-functional, and phenomenological–which allows for a deeper analysis of the academic sculpture education system through the lens of conceptual shifts in contemporary art and material-technical innovations, as well as an examination of the potential of new technological approaches within the context of classical education. An analytical approach was used to study the historical stages of sculpture’s development, including a review of classical and contemporary methods. A comparative method was applied to analyze changes in materials and techniques, as well as a descriptive method to characterize the introduction of modernist trends in sculpture into the academic education system.
The scientific novelty lies in exploring the specifics of integrating the contemporary metal sculpture movement known as «Scrap Art» into the classical educational system, which offers a fresh perspective on the process of modernizing academic approaches to sculpture education.
Conclusions. The training of future artists today involves a harmonious blend of academic teaching approaches with new trends and movements in art; exposure to these is intended to strengthen the creative component of their education. Close collaboration between the B4 Fine Arts and Restoration program and the «Sirim» art studio at the Shevchenko National University of Culture and Arts will, in the near future, allow art students to become acquainted with the work of a metal sculptor in the field of «Scrap Art» directly within the workshop and with the opportunity to actively participate in the creation of three-dimensional artistic images. Working with alternative materials and technologies, specific approaches to form creation, and constructive thinking–all of this opens up new opportunities for creative self-realization and professional orientation for future artists.
