Abstract

The main guarantee of the development of any state is quality education. Technology and computerization of the world require appropriate training of specialists and average citizens in physics, mathematics, computer science and this must take place at all levels of education. The content of the article reveals the authors' attempt to provide an analysis of the problem of reducing entrants entering the specialty aimed at training specialists in the technical professions and teachers of physics, mathematics and computer science. The study found that this decrease was due to a number of reasons, including demographics, cognitive, socio-economic, personal. These groups of reasons are interrelated and can have different effects on the development of the country as a whole. The authors present their own experience of the system of organization and conducting of career guidance of the Chair of Physics and its teaching methods of Kherson State University. This system included various activities both on the base of the department and during the visit to the educational institutions of the city and the region, involving the students of different classes, teachers, parents, directors of the general secondary education institutions, representatives of the city and district departments of education.

Article's purpose is to identify ways of career guidance in higher education institutions and to describe their own experience in this area.

Methodology. The theoretical and methodological research was carried out on the basis of theoretical methods of research: comparative analysis of statistical data, scientific and methodological literature, work experience of scientific and pedagogical workers of higher education institution.

Scientific novelty is the generalized experience of organizing and conducting career guidance of the Chair of Physics and its teaching methods at Kherson State University in order to attract more students.

Conclusions. Many social factors cause decrease in the number of entrants who wish to enter higher education institutions, which in the future may lead to a decline in the economic development of the country. In this regard, it is necessary to focus more on career guidance not only in higher education institutions (as general activities of an entire educational institution) but also in professional departments (as structural units), implementing its various types using modern technologies.
